Dominoes

I am reminded of when I was young and used to stand dominoes on end in a row, push the first one over which then toppled all the others in turn.

First in the ‘row’ was the dishwasher last year.  The control panel burnt out and was irreparable, which I thought was a bit much after only 10 years of frequent use!

When the dishwasher fell over, it hit the PVR which took a while to fall over but eventually had to be returned to the manufacturer for repair.  They very quickly lost it and after many emails and phone calls from me, offered a replacement, believe it or not Free of Charge!!

As the PVR fell, it hit the A3 colour printer which has always hated me!  I have tried talking nicely to it and being gentle to no avail!  I have opened the window and threatened it with death, I have punched it and kicked it but it just refuses to eat the photo paper more than once out of ten attempts.

As it is falling, it has glanced off the washing machine which did a mad dance out of its cosy home, across the kitchen floor to the extent of the hose, banging and crashing until the fuse box decided enough was enough.

So far, it is perilously close to the microwave, the toaster and the television but hasn’t yet decided which way to fall.  Perhaps I should just push everything over and be done with it!

  1. Here, it takes Christmas for something major to fall over. Usually the dishwasher, when full of dirty dishes. Not always terminal, but always a pain in the neck.

  2. I've seen several blogs along these lines recently (though yours is the funniest). Is it all falling apart? Do the maintenance contracts stand? Not quite ready to push it all over, but I think we have to consider how we'll live once all the dominoes crash down.
BTW, Sue, you and Z live quite close together.

  3. I know how I would live without all these appliances! We had a 4 day power cut a few year's ago and managed quite well. Although it was November we barbecued all the thawed out contents of the freezer on the chiminea - neighbours brought their stuff as well and we had some good parties! We improvised with space heaters, candles and camping gas stove BUT if it was going to be long term, I would install a woodburning stove, move the chiminea nearer the back door, get on a bicycle and buy fresh food every day (like our parents used to) and wash up with a kettle of hot water (from the water butt). I think that just about covers most things - except the computer and I just couldn't live without that! So - a wind generator would be a must. Have I missed anything?

  7. Just as a follow-up, the washing machine did fall over, hitting the kitchen and bathroom taps on the way down, which then fell over, knocking down the garden fence. So far the fence managed to avoid hitting anything else on the way down, but there is still one panel standing so - watch this space!!
